Edmonton area author Robert Feagan will be sharing personal stories about his life growing up in the North, as well as giving a presentation to youth, which is meant to inspire young minds and foster literacy.

Feagan will be presenting at the Strathmore Municipal Library on October 29 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.

Miranda Johnson, director of library services for the Strathmore Municipal Library, explained that they are honoured to have Feagan facilitate this type of reading and presentation.

“I’ve seen him facilitate this type of author reading before and he is amazing with students,” she said.

“It’s a part of the Young Alberta Book Society’s ‘Taleblazers’ program, which is an annual literary arts festival for children which takes place between September 30 and November 1,’ said Johnson.

“The program facilitates meaningful connections between Alberta students and Alberta authors, illustrators, poets, playwrights and storytellers,” she said.

During the Taleblazers festival, Young Alberta Book Society members travel across Alberta with an aim to inspire students and promote literacy.

“I think it really inspires children to have a passion for reading and writing,” said Johnson. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions too.

“I’ve had a student bring in their writing and have the author look at it. It‘s just to really get that kind of a one-on-one with a real, live author,” she said.

Feagan is an author of books in the juvenile category.

The presentation will be free and open to all ages, but is geared to students Grade 2 and up. Home schooled students, and local school groups have been invited to attend.
