After a month of calls for tryouts for the Strathmore Badgers, the PeeWee team played host to Lacombe.  The team was still working out the shortcoming of playing as a new team.

Coach Doug Theissen, talk about how the game went, "We lost 19 to nothing, we were actually were nothing, nothing at halftime.  In the first half, we fumbled a couple of times deep in their end.  So we had a pretty good game, they played really well.  I think what caught up with us was the heat and our low numbers.  We had some guys who never left the field."

This was a contributing factor to the strategy of the visiting coach. Between substitutions and trying to get the players some rest, the Lacome coach took advantage of the situation to go after those holes in the defense that lead to one turning point play for Lacome that cost them 60 yards.  After that play, the visiting Lacombe team stayed in our zone to gain the win.

Even though Strathmore took a loss it was a good foundation moving forward.  Theissen describes the team focus now, "They showed that they can play with the team, now it is just a little bit of developing the skill set.  Honestly just letting them practice together cause we still have been adding players.  We added some early as Thursday before the game.  As they get to practice together as a team I suspect we will be very competitive moving forward."

The next home game will be September 28 as they take on Olds.
