We've been enjoying an unusually warm Fall so far, which has been great for golfers trying to stretch the season out or people looking to enjoy the outdoors a bit longer. But could we see that changing soon?

Kyle Fougere with Environment Canada explains our nice weather has been caused by a high-pressure system, which prevents storms from forming and keeps warm air around. However, with the pressure systems forecasted to change, we could see a drastic turn.

"We're going to see a big change this weekend as that ridge of high pressure breaks down and we'll have a cold front/low pressure system move through tomorrow, it's going to bring in a bit of cold air. And then another system moves through on Saturday, it's going to spread some precipitation into the province and a lot of it will be in the form of snow, especially as you move farther West in the province towards the foothills and we definitely have the potential for quite a bit of snow with this system, and unfortunately, we'll drag in some colder air from the north," he said.

While hearing it's going to get colder may not be welcome news, it's not going to be too bad, as Fougere explains it's really just a return to normal temperatures.

"It's pretty typical of this time of year to have these systems move through, basically the jet stream just starts to move into Alberta and it starts to steer these storms towards us. For the last month or two, the jet stream has been farther north and it's been steering the storms up into the Northwest Territories, and now it's going to be our turn this weekend. So it is pretty common for it to happen this time of year."

Even though this weekend and the immediate future look to be cold and potentially snowy, beyond that we could continue to get above normal temperatures. Fougere explains this is because the current low pressure system expected this weekend isn't bringing true arctic air down as we'd see in late November and December.

"We still are expecting temperatures to generally be above normal as we look into the future for November. We're going to see this cooler air come in, but it doesn't mean if we do get some snow that it's going to stick around necessarily because temperatures are likely to still be above 0 into early next week."

We could be getting a bit of a sneak peek of winter, but for now, it looks like this will only be a temporary thing before returning to our regularly scheduled fall weather.
