The Strathmore Wheatland Kings hit the road headed south this weekend to meet up with the Medicine Hat Cubs.

“Over the weekend, we split. We didn’t play very well in Medicine Hat on Saturday. I can’t say much more now other than we just didn’t play very well as a team. On Sunday, we beat Cochrane, which is one of the top teams in the league, so we are really happy with that. The guys really showed some moxie coming back from the way they played Saturday to the way they played on Sunday," explained Kings general manager Lee Smith.

The boys will be back in action with two home games this weekend. On Saturday, the Kings take on the Okotoks Bisons. On Sunday, the Kings may be able to redeem themselves against Medicine Hat at home.

“We are really shooting for both of those teams because they are in the top of the league and we are sitting in third right now,” Smith continued.

For Smith, one player really stood out during last Sunday’s win against Cochrane, “Jaycob Masciangelo, he had a two-goal game and scored a real beauty for the win with 5 minutes left in the game. He had a real strong game.”

Sunday’s game was also a spooky one as it was Halloween, “Our timekeeper was dressed up, the announcer was dressed up and our music girl was dressed up as well,” he chuckled.
