NHL fans will have to wait even longer to see where Alexis Lafreniere will land next season.

After counting down the 7th to 2nd overall pick clubs, NHL fans were left wanting more when it was announced that a place-holder team would get the first overall.

One team eliminated from the NHL's 24 team playoff format will earn the first pick for the 2020 draft.

What this means for the Calgary Flames is that if their best of 5 series against the Winnipeg Jets doesn't go as planned they could see the French-Canadian sensation heading to Calgary.

For the remaining picks here's how it all played out:

1st overall - Placeholder Team

2nd overall - Los Angeles

3rd overall - Ottawa (via San Joes)

4th overall - Detroit

5th overall - Ottawa

6th overall - Anaheim

7th overall - New Jersey

8th overall - Buffalo
