Monday was the kickoff for Food for Fines! This is your chance to clear off a few of your overdue book/item fines at the Strathmore Municipal Library in exchange for a donation to the Wheatland County Food Bank.

Food for Fines takes place from November 1 to 30th.

Rachel Dick-Hughes, Strathmore’s library director explains, "We love it because it's a fun way for people to clear their library accounts. Sometimes it's a little demoralizing when your fines wrack up.”

“It just feels a little more concrete when you can bring in a case of soup and get $25 off your fines,” she said, and while you’re at it, support the local food bank.

There are two ways to pay off fines. The first is to donate a non-perishable food item or personal hygiene item. Then $2 will be waived from your fines. The second way is for every $1 donated to the food bank in monetary donations, $2 will be waived from fines.

“This year what we're doing it a little bit differently. We're accepting cash donations as well as food donations,” she said.

This year Food for Fines also is being extended to lost or damaged items.

The funds generated from this year’s Food For Fines will support the Wheatland County Food Bank and the new Little Free Pantry located in front of the Strathmore library.
