Emotional Support Livestock

The City of Calgary has approved a bylaw amendment to allow livestock to be used as emotional support animals.

Calgarians will now be able to have chickens, miniature horses and pigs, but owners must get a permit which involves getting a letter from a psychiatrist or psychologist.

 

Calf Prices Remain 'Fairly Strong'

Dry conditions this year have put a bit of pressure on ranchers finding feed, which means sometimes calves are weaned earlier.

Market Analyst with Canfax, Brian Perillat, say some of the calf weaning weights are just a bit lighter due to the animals being brought in earlier and younger.

He says, overall calf prices remain fairly strong.

This Year's Harvest a 'Nightmare' For Malt Barley

The Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre is describing this year's harvest in Western Canada as a nightmare.

They say unharvested barley, which has been subject to relentless wet conditions, will crush many farmers hopes of having their barley accepted as malt quality.

It adds, most unharvested barley will be downgraded to feed.
