The First Ever Local Food Council

Alberta's first ever local food council is meeting this week.

The group will provide recommendations on policies, programs and pilot projects to support the continued growth of the Province's local food sector.

Appointing the council was part of implementing the Supporting Alberta's Local Food Sector Act passed in May.

 

UFA Donates A Chunk Change to Olds College

On Tuesday, UFA announced they're donating $500,000 dollars to Olds College and it's focus on agriculture innovation and technology.

The five year financial commitment will be used to create the UFA Innovation Lab on campus and go towards the College's Smart Farm.

 

New Tax Credit Program To Spur Investment in Sectors Like Agriculture

The Alberta Government is looking to spur investment in areas like agriculture.

Alberta's Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Deron Bilous, says the Community Economic Development Corporation Tax Credit Program, is the first of it's kind in Alberta.

He says, one part of the program is aimed at the agriculture sector with a 30 per cent tax credit to investors looking to contribute to things like a value added agriculture business.

 

Harvest Progress Hits the Half Way Mark

The warm fall weather has allowed farmers to get back in their fields.

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's latest crop report shows harvest is 51 per cent complete in the province.
