Right now there are no municipal orders that mandate people to wear face masks in Strathmore. On Monday, the province of Alberta strongly recommended that individuals wear face masks.

Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said, “I want to remind Albertans that when used properly, masks can protect others and help limit the spread of COVID-19. I am strongly recommending that all of us wear masks any time when we are out and can’t maintain a two-metre distance from others, especially in indoor spaces.”

“Wearing a mask is a common-sense precaution that should be a part of everyone’s new normal,” she said.

The province asks people to wear non-medical face masks when it’s difficult to maintain physical distancing in the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

On Monday the province began once more distributing another 20 million face masks through local A & W, Tim Hortons, and McDonald’s Canada restaurant drive-thrus. In this round, the restaurants will be handing out eight masks to individuals.

The program has also been expanded to include more long-term care and supportive living facilities, seniors facilities, community groups, organizations, libraries, courthouses, and places of worship.

Premier Jason Kenney says, “Albertans don’t shy away from hard work when there is a job to do. Right now, it’s our job to continue to do the work needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as our province relaunches. Washing your hands regularly, practising physical distancing, and wearing a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible will help keep us all safe.”
