Hayley Rosenau of Strathmore is working to make a difference for people experiencing homelessness.

Rosenau moved to Rosebud to study theatre 2 years ago and the group took a trip to Vancouver to work with top instructors. Growing up in a small town and attending post-secondary in Rosebud Hayley did not have much exposure to homelessness.

"During these workshops, I found myself not really focusing on what we were learning I was so focused on the folks who were on the street and living in tents," said Rosenau

When Rosenau got back from Vancouver she wanted to do something to help, she formed a nonprofit organization called Anchored Warrior. The goal of her company is to provide items in need of the homeless community in Calgary.

Collecting donations is a large part of making this project a success when asked how she sources these items Rosneau said, "Social media has been huge I have been doing a lot of shout-outs on our anchored warrior facebook page and on my hometown facebook page," Rosenau said and has found that being in a smaller community has been extremely helpful as there is a great sense of giving back.

Rosenau and her team of volunteers went to Calgary on February 3 in temperatures of -27 and set up a pop-up shop in the parking lot of the Calgary Drop-In Centre.

They hope was to give out jackets and blankets and other items that were in need, Rosenau was uncertain if this would work or if they would be able to help anyone. By the end of the day they had helped 65 people on February 3, Rosenau feels this is just the beginning for this organization and hopes to see Anchored Warrior spread across the globe.

"I would love to see it travel to see it go Canada wide, that might be a big dream," Rosenau said.

"I really want to see anchored warrior grow and get bigger, so in years to come I would like to see us be able to bring in barbers, to help people prep for job interviews and really help people get back on their feet," said Rosenau.

To get in touch with Anchored Warrior to volunteer or help with donations they can be reached on their facebook page and on their website anchoredwarrior.com.

Rosenau and her team will be continuing with Anchored Warrior in hopes to see the organization help as many people as possible.
