Today Bow River MP Martin Shields along with Parliamentarians and staff members from all political parties gathered on Parliament Hill to form a human ‘tryzub,’ the Ukrainian Coat of Arms, in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

MP Shields, along with his Conservative colleagues are calling on the government to support Ukraine and its people with concrete actions. ‘We unequivocally condemn this brutal and unlawful invasion of a democratic nation by Vladimir Putin.’

Shields said on social media about the conflict that Russia's invasion of Ukraine must be rightly condemned and action must be taken against this blatant violation of international law and custom. Canada must support Ukraine and encourage allies to do the same.

"Countries of the world need to stand with Ukraine. It has been invaded by Russia. This is so wrong that an independent democracy has been invaded by another country. It's not acceptable, it's not right,” Shields said.

“Countries need to be united against this kind of incursion. A military invasion and destructive war,” he said.

“Countries need to stand up. The countries of Europe have been held hostage by Russia for their resources we need to support those European countries to understand resources are available without being held blackmailed. We need to support Ukraine. All the countries in the world need to tell Russia to get out of Ukraine,” said Shields.
