Brandon Giffen one of two brothers from Strathmore who were charged in the killing of Kristian Ayoungman, has been sentenced to 12 years of incarceration.

Last year Brandon Giffen was found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Kristian Ayoungman.

In March 2019, Giffen fatally shot Ayoungman. The killing of Ayoungman, a local hockey player shocked the community of Strathmore and Siksika Nation.

Ayoungman was a "young man of outstanding character who had the love and admiration of his whole community," said Court of Queen's Bench Justice Robert Hall.

Ayoungman was shot on a highway outside Strathmore by Brandon Giffen in March  2019.

It’s believed that the victim and Kody Giffen were both at the King Eddy Pub in Strathmore. Two groups of people fought. Kody Giffen left to go find his brother Brandon, who at the time was at home at his apartment.

Ayoungman and his friends left in order to drive home. One of his friend’s homes was in the same apartment building as Brandon Giffen. A fight ensued in the apartment parking lot. Brandon went inside and retrieved a hunting rifle. He confronted Ayoungman, who fled with his friends in a truck.

Brandon and Kody followed with Kody Giffen driving, Brandon in the passenger seat, and the rest of their friends in the vehicle.

The brother’s vehicle pulled over, and a single shot from Brandon Giffen on the highway killed Ayoungman.

Kody Giffen, was found guilty of Manslaughter in 2020 and was sentenced to four years in prison.
