Brooks RCMP responded to a report of a pickup truck that had collided with a train on July 12.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. members of the Brooks RCMP, Brooks Fire Department, EMS, and CP Rail Police were dispatched to a collision at an uncontrolled railway crossing near the Brooks Aqueduct.

Police found a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup truck severely damaged from being struck by a locomotive after attempting to cross the rails in the path of the oncoming train. 

Brooks Fire Department extracted the two occupants of the truck. 

The 21-year-old drive from Bassano was transported to the Brooks Health Centre by EMS with serious non-life threatening injuries. 

The 17-year-old female passenger from Brooks was taken to Brooks Health Centre in critical condition. She was then flown by STARS to the Foothills Medical Centre, where her status upgraded to a stable condition. 

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by CP Rail Police.
