A third-party review will take place to find out the cause of the Alberta Health Services province-wide network outage. Early indications do not point to hacking or a cyber-attack as a cause of the technical issue.

The network outage experienced by AHS happened on Monday, January 23, 2023, that lasted several hours but was rectified late in the day.

Health Link 811, Connect Care, electronic medical records, and community and hospital lab services felt the effect of the outage.

AHS is rebooking any patients that were impacted by the postponements of non-emergency surgeries on Monday.

Dr. John Cowell, AHS Official Administrator says, “I would like to thank Albertans for their patience, as well as the teams involved in getting our systems back up and running.” adding, “It is imperative that we understand what happened today so that it does not happen again.”
