Imagine stepping out onto the soccer field and getting a pass and learning the ropes from a professional soccer player. On Thursday night, members of the Strathmore Soccer Association had the chance to learn from the pros.

Players from the Canadian Premier League’s Cavalry FC soccer team were in town to give a training session. SSA Administrator Angie Boyd explains that the SSA is part of Cavalry FC’s club program.

She revealed the Premiere League club, which is in first place in the standings right now, will be back in the community in July ifor another training night.

“This is a great experience because this is bringing soccer to a whole new level here in Strathmore. This is a really exciting time for soccer, with Canada making it into the World Cup, you know we're seeing big growth in soccer and so being able to provide this spotlight on soccer, having these pro soccer players come out and run a tech training session with some of our teams really just helps enhance the program,” said Boyd.

She explained that it also gives the sport a little bit more credibility in Strathmore as well.

Don’t forget to purchase tickets for the next Cavalry FC game on July 27. That’s when U9 players from the SSA will be playing at Spruce Meadows during halftime, and escorting Cavalry FC’s roster of players onto the pitch before the match.
