Rhonda Stockwell is the new chairman of the celebration of lights as of 2018 it will be going into it's 11th year and they are getting ready to expand even more this season.

Stockwell said, "There is a great committee of people that all chip in. We have some people that specifically work on designs and a lot of the same people physically set up the park, and of course lots of volunteers during the park season because we are open 50 days straight from 6-9 p.m. every night even Christmas Eve."

The team has been building more new displays for this seasons Celebration of Lights,  they started work as soon as rodeo season was over the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society provided a bay at the Remuda building for pre-production of the displays it has been a great workshop for the crew.  Having this space has given them the freedom to get in and continue to work throughout the last couple of cold weeks.

The first day of setup will be on October 20 and the Wheatland Kings will be coming out to help with setup on that day.  The George Freeman School students will be volunteering with their community caring club.  As well every Saturday until it opens there will be work bees at the Remuda Center at 10 a.m. the Remuda building is the blue building at the entrance to the rodeo grounds.

Stockwell said, "There is no need to call ahead people can just show up, we don't have any work gloves provided, so volunteers would need to bring their own if they want any."

This event is made possible by the volunteers, and with local sponsorships as well the agricultural society that donates the land the displays are set up on. Stockwell has been involved with this project for the last year and is looking forward to working with the crew to make this year a success.  She has lived in Strathmore all her life and wanted to get involved in something that gives something back to the community.

They are always looking for volunteers for setup and tear down, and sponsorships to keep this running each year anyone that can help can email celebrationoflights2018@gmail.com
