There are now four confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Chestermere.

Now the city is inviting residents to call in and take part in the City of Chestermere’s telephone town hall at 10:30 a.m.

The telephone town hall will be a chance for residents to get a live update from the municipality and to ask questions.

“The fact that COVID-19 is here and is growing is very troubling. Please do not gather with those outside of your family. Social distancing continues to be very important. We urge you to stay least 6 feet away from anyone outside of your family. Chestermere, we CAN stop the spread of this disease but we all must take action,” said Mayor Marshall Chalmers in a news release.

Like the action taken in Strathmore on March 23, Chestermere has closed all city playgrounds until further notice.

“Playground equipment cannot be effectively sanitized between each group who plays there,” says Chalmers. “As such, to cut down on the chances of transmission, we are closing all playgrounds immediately.”

Parks are still open to the public as well as pathways, but the Mayor recommends people stay six feet away from anyone who is not in your household.

Chestermere Emergency Management Agency (CHEMA) will be calling residents who had a number listed in the Chestermere Anchor’s local directory, to let them know the town hall is happening. They will call again when the meeting is about to start.

Participants can sign up in advance for the telephone town hall by visiting https://vekeo.com/chestermere/, or dial in directly Tuesday morning at 10:30 by calling 1-877-229-8493 and entering the code 119243.
