Members of the congregation from Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore have been out spreading Christmas cheer through Christmas caroling this month.

Pastor Dawn Nelson explained that volunteers practiced social distancing and followed public health orders as they visited homes in the community and serenaded people from their driveways.

“We went out Tuesday and if the weather is good we will go again Tuesday,” she said. “We are doing it according to the AHS guidelines,” Nelson continued. Organizers take no more than 10 people caroling.

“On Tuesday we only had six of us go. Everybody remains masked and we always stayed a good 12 feet apart the whole time the other night.”

People were surprised and very pleased. “I think because it’s as close to normal as we are probably going to get to things we have done in the past. It’s just nice to see friendly faces,” she explained. “And the only thing we heard was we wished you could have stayed longer.”

When asked how she personally felt about brightening up someone’s day, Nelson said, “It was wonderful. It gives energy. It’s hard to have energy when things are so different, but doing things like that makes it all worthwhile and real. We can make a difference.”
