This summer there are exciting things in store for Strathmore. On August 4th judges for the Communities in Bloom (CiB) contest will be visiting the town. CiB is a provincial and national competition that inspires communities to improve quality of life and boost civic pride. Municipalities are judged on a variety of criteria that include Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays.

Councillor Jason Montgomery reminded the public that the town has the Adopt a Park program. Where green thumbs can volunteer to spruce up one of three green spaces in town, which will help improve the look of the community before the judges arrive.

“Individuals can contact the town and become responsible for the care and upkeep of various parks in town or various green spaces,” he said.

In terms of Communities in Bloom he explained, the local champer of CiB will be entering the town into judging this summer, “We did quite well a couple of summers ago when we were judged. so we're looking forward to that again.”

Strathmore Mayor Pat Fule said, “I know a lot of you like to take care of your lawns or gardens, and your properties. That'll be the day that we are judged and we're hoping to have another 5 blooms and really showcase the improvements that have gone on in Strathmore.’

He also recognized Montgomery’s work with a recent TD tree grant in town.

“If you've noticed the green space on Center St and Archie Klaiber Trail, we put in a pathway a couple of years ago, a nice paved pathway and deputy Mayor Montgomery's efforts with TD we're really instrumental in getting a lot of really nice established trees planted along that pathway. It's a great way to get through one of our green spaces. It cuts off distance so you can get into the shopping area of the Ranch district,” he said.
