While many have hoped that some restrictions were to be relieved today, that is not the case. Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Chief Medical officer of Health for Alberta announced that there will be no changes to the current Alberta restrictions despite the decline in COVID-19 cases.

“In a year that has already been extremely difficult, I’m proud of the sacrifices and community spirit that Albertan’s have shown to produce these encouraging numbers. At the same time, we are not in the clear just yet. That is why no additional measures are being eased at this time.”

“There are no changes being announced today,” she reiterated.

There are currently 83 active cases of COVID-19 in Strathmore and 26 in Wheatland County.

“Over the last 24 hours, we identified 678 new cases of COVID-19 in the province. Our labs completed about 14,000 tests. And the positivity rate is about 4.8 per cent.”

There has not been a date set for when the government might relieve the current restrictions. Health officials continue to actively evaluate the situation and will adjust measures if required.

In the last 24 hours, there were 16 additional COVID-related deaths reported: one on Jan. 7, one on Jan. 15, one on Jan. 17, one on Jan. 18, nine on Jan. 19, and three on Jan. 20.

Hinshaw gave her condolences to the family and friends of those who have passed away.
