There are 956 people in hospital with COVID-19 in Alberta. Health Minister Jason Copping and Dr. Deena Hinshaw held a COVID-19 update this afternoon.

Hinshaw revealed that the COVID-19 updates will now transition from daily to once weekly.

Hinshaw also explained that people who are 65 and older of who have conditions like COPD or diabetes should consider getting a booster shot. She noted that booster shots are now widely available in the province.

Hinshaw said that between Friday and Monday the positivity rate ranged from 20.6 per cent to 27.1 per cent with an average of 23.5 per cent. The province is averaging 5 deaths per day related to COVID-19.

“This is a reminder of the fact that this infection is still a significant threat to many of us, our families and our friends,” she said.

“It's important to take this seriously as we move into activities we haven't done for a while and consider how best to support those around us to mitigate the risks,” said Hinshaw.
