There will be a national test of the emergency alerting system this week. On Wednesday, November 16th at 1:55 pm MST, messages will be delivered through cell phones, radio, and tablets.

The public test will be enacted across the majority of provinces and territories in Canada and will simulate an emergency alert, including the Canadian Alert Attention Signal, which will be played loudly from your device.

“While Alert Ready may be most known in some provinces for the distribution of AMBER Alerts to the public, it is also designed to deliver other critical and potentially lifesaving, including but not limited to tornado, flooding, fire, and civil emergency warnings.” reads a statement on the Ready Alert website.

Albertans are also being encouraged to download the Alberta Emergency Alert mobile app to ensure they received emergency notifications relevant for your area. Alberta residents can find that app, here.

The message will state that it is a test and that no action from the public is required.
