The Filipino community in Strathmore is planning its second annual independence day. Also known as Araw ng Kalayaan, which means Day of Freedom when it is directly translated.

The event will be held this year on June 11th at Kinsmen Park and the growing Filipino community in Strathmore has asked the mayor to speak in Kinsman park during the festivities.

The event itself celebrates the liberation of the Filipino people from the Spanish in 1898 and is celebrated all around the world with everything from giant parades to simple family celebrations.

The festivities at Kinsman Park will focus on sharing and celebrating Filipino culture and heritage with the community of Strathmore and surrounding areas.

The last event in 2019 saw Kinsman Park filled with festivities and food and uniquely, a pop-up Sari-Sari (variety) store, and a Jeepney photo booth, which is a type of modified jeep common in the Philippines.

The event is open to the entire community and the organizers are looking forward to welcoming and introducing people to their culture and traditions..
