This weekend on June 30 and July 1 marked the 2019 First Nations Talent Contest. The event was held at the Strathmore Agricultural Grounds. Performers came from across Alberta and Saskatchewan to participate in the inclusive contest, which featured three categories: solo, band, and youth.

The solo and band contests were held on June 30, with the youth contest on July 1.

There was a wide variety of First Nations and non-First Nations performers. Music also ranged from traditional Indigenous songs, to country, original music, rock, blues and rap.

There were also hoop dancing performances, and spoken word artists. Inside the quonset on the agricultural grounds, there was also a variety of Indigenous art and a silent auction.

Denis Grady was the master of ceremonies. Each competition was overseen by a jury.

There were a number of prizes handed out to the winners of each category.

Lunch on both days was provided by Lina’s Italian Market.
