During the holidays, children around the world count down the days until Christmas Eve before they have to go to bed before Santa makes his big arrival!

This is the biggest night of the year for Santa and his team of Reindeer travelling over 510,000,000 km, it is pretty busy for Santa with our 390,000 homes to visit!

On Christmas Eve, the official NORAD Santa tracker will launch, letting all those waiting for his arrival in time for Christmas keep track of his journey.

Thanks to a mistaken phone number printed in a newspaper advert back in 1955, a young child called the top-secret line to NORAD to ask about Santa's location, Colonel Shoup dubbed "Santa Colonel" and the other operators working that night were not about to disappoint anyone on Christmas and they told him Santa's exact location, and then proceeded to field calls all night long and told all of the other children who phoned where he was.

NORAD has carried out its Christmas role for over 60 years and since 1997, children around the world have been able to monitor Santa's journey online.

Santa is known by many names around the world in Britain he is called Father Christmas, in Belgium and the Netherlands, Santa is known as Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) he wears a bishop's alb, cape, and ruby ring and travels on a white horse.

In Finland, he is called Joulupukki and knocks on children's door on Christmas eve to ask if they have been good that year.

In France, Père Noël rides a donkey called Gui, putting sweets inside children's shoes, that is just a few of the ways Santa is known around the world!
