Snow is potentially coming our way early next week.

Parts manager at Strathmore Dodge, Chris Williams, says that right now is the perfect time to get your vehicle ready for the harsh winter roads.

"The number one thing to think about is tires. Winter tires make a huge difference."

Willams says there is a common misconception that all-season tires are just as good as winter tires, however, that isn't the case.

"Winter tires are built with a different rubber compound so they are a lot softer. You don't want to run it in the summertime by any means but when it comes to the icy, slushy, snowy roads that softer rubber compound grips a lot better to the surface rather than an all-season."

Williams told StrathmoreNow drivers will notice the difference between all-season and winter tires if they've tried both in the colder months. He suggests talking to a tire expert to find the best tire for your driving habits and vehicle.

Willams said that from there you would want to check your fluids which can be done through a variety of inspections. The 85-point inspection is the main one he recommends.

Williams explained that a block heater is also very important to have in good working condition before the snow flies.

"There are block heater testers, there are other ways to test block heaters as well and we can go through all of that for you at the dealership here."

Lastly, Williams said that having a good set of wiper blades installed is super important for the winter season.
