Gearing up for Strathmore’s Canada Day

Things are finally getting back to normal, and this year's Canada Day will be bigger and better than ever, with all of the fun and excitement bringing the community together on July 1st.

Town of Strathmore Marketing and Communication Analyst Danielle Jensen said the town began making plans for Canada Day right after Strathmore Day in March.

“Things are going really well. We’re excited to be bringing back some elements from past Canada Day celebrations. We’re getting back to the roots of the event with the hopes of building it back up again after celebrations took a hiatus over the pandemic,” she said.

Typically during Canada Day, there are events for the entire community centered around Kinsmen Park.

“We have a full day of events planned, starting with a daybreak ceremony at Kinsmen Park. Canada Day isn’t a celebration for some Indigenous People. Our daybreak ceremony is a way to recognize the challenging history and the town’s efforts toward reconciliation,” she said.

Other events on the day include the annual pancake breakfast at the Strathmore Fire Department starting at 9 a.m.

“The rest of what we have planned will take place in Kinsmen Park with the exception of the fireworks show. At the park, we’ll have opening ceremonies, family fishing, face painting, and fun for the kids like large inflatables and a petting zoo. We’re also working with RE/MAX Key and the REPs Group to bring back popular events like the Kids Bike Parade,” said Jensen.

“We’re excited to be welcoming the Steve Pointmeier Band and other live entertainers,” she said.

The entire day will wrap up with the fireworks display!

“The Town of Strathmore is fortunate to have expertise like the Fireworks Factory in our own backyard. They always put on a great show and were really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us this year.”
