Grab your hot chocolate and seat cushions to watch the Strathmore Bantam and Peewee Badgers as they have hit the field this season.

Greg Zaugg, president of the Strathmore  Community Football Association, explained that this season is going well as can be expected.

“The season's going pretty well. Our numbers this year have been quite a bit lower than they typically are, we're kind of chalking it up to COVID-19, and I think there are still some people that were hesitant to get out there.”

Zaugg explained that the peewee team had enough players to form a full team but the bantam group had to change down to 9-man football.

“It has been a learning curve for the coaches, for sure. It is a night and day different game. It's been a challenge, we've won two, and we've lost two. The games are typically very high-scoring games because it's so hard to defend and cover the whole field. The size of the field doesn't change in 9-man.”

The peewees are developing their skills this year and learning the game, while they have not yet won a game, Zaugg, explained that they have got on the scoreboard and think they are developing nicely.

Off the field, the Badgers are hitting the streets to sell their famous Badger Cards to residents in Strathmore.

“So, the cards were a little late coming out this year, they've only been out with the kids for a little over a week now and the sales have been through the roof. It has been awesome.”

He continued to say that they have around 35 players out knocking on doors and selling the cards. Badger cards have great discounts to local businesses in Strathmore. Zaugg mentioned that buying the cards are a win-win situation as it encourages local spending and helps the Strathmore Community Football Association keep kids active.

The peewees have a home game at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the bantam team has a bye week this week for the Thanksgiving weekend.

It's also getting closer to their playoff season. “A lot of people don't realize how fast it goes, but come to the end of October we are into playoffs already.”
