Scammers are looking to cash in on the federal grocery rebate.

The rebate is part of the proposed federal budget tabled in March, but it's yet to be passed.

Despite that fact, many people across social media report receiving a text from someone claiming to be the CRA saying their grocery rebate is ready to be deposited.

The text includes a link that presumably leads to a phishing website.

It's a twist on the phishing scam preying on people who have seen media coverage of the rebate and might be expecting to receive their payment soon.

There's no word yet on when the rebate is supposed to be issued.
