After stopping in several other Alberta locations over the last six months, HBO will bring their production of the TV show The Last of Us to Wheatland County.

When the new HBO show, The Last of Us, finally hits the screens people may recognize a few landmarks from around Southern Alberta. 

Filming was originally scheduled for March 7 - 9 but had to be postponed. It is set to take place today and Wednesday (March 15 and March 16).⁣⁣

Wheatland County office issued this statement "Highway 901 will be closed between Highway 817 and RR 251 from 6:00 am March 15th to March 16th, to accommodate the filming schedule. ⁣⁣

Traffic utilizing HWY 901 will be directed along a detour route down RR 251 to TWP 230 to HWY 817.⁣⁣ RR 252 will be closed off from accessing HWY 901 both north and south of the highway.⁣⁣⁣ TWP 224 and RR 251 south of HWY 901, will be open to local traffic only."⁣⁣⁣

The Last of Us is based on a 2013 video game surrounding a man and a young girl trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world besieged by zombies infected by a mutated fungus.

It will star Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as protagonists Joel and Ellie.

The production has previously been filmed in other areas of the province including High River, Fort Macleod, and Canmore.
