Holy Cross Collegiate Junior A boys basketball team held their invitational tournament last weekend and came away with a bronze win for the still budding team.  Head coach Ben Chin was pleased with the running of the tournament and level of play the boy's team achieved, "The games were very competitive on both sides of the brackets. the tournament ran really smoothly and in terms of our personal team success, I thought it was our best tournament, it is only our second tournament of the year, but I thought our boys showed vast improvement."

Coming in sixth place in the last tournament the team knew that they had to get to work and improve on the fundamentals if they were going to be competitive this year.  Chin talks about some of the goals, "We really worked on our shooting. In the first tournament, we were actually pressured as a team quite a bit too, so we tried to manage what to do with the ball, and also how to make good decisions.  Be patient with the ball. A lot of it was just getting guys in the right spots, that is what has been focusing on in practice."

All the hard work paid off and some immediate results could be seen in the last tournament Chin said, "Our first game we played Trinity Christian Academy and we went into overtime in that game, so it was really exciting, but luckily we came out on top in overtime. Then we played Drumheller, they are probably one of the best teams in our zone, very well-coached. We were nearly tied, but I think we ended up losing that game by nine points. It was tight to the end. Our home team Holy Cross ended up playing Cremona for the bronze medal. We ended up taking the bronze medal in our home tournament."

Drumheller and Webber Academy were in the gold medal game with Webber Academy winning gold.
