Heavy Item Garbage (HIG) pick up will not be happening in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Waste Management in Strathmore posted on their social media that April's HIG week was cancelled. Staff will keep the public updated closer to the next HIG collection week in July.

Individuals are still able to bring their heavy items themselves to the recycle yard, but there will be a fee based on the weight of the item.

The program, which is run by the town, allows residents to dispose of a maximum of five items of large residential waste.

The items must be able to be lifted by hand and each item should not exceed 150 lbs.

Usually, at 7 a.m. on Monday of HIG week, the items should be put out with a HIG sticker on them.

Heavy garbage items include furniture like sofas, and box springs, washers, rolled-up carpet and barbecues with the propane removed.

The regular waste collection continues in the Town of Strathmore and the recycling depot is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. Although the main office is closed to the public. They are still accepting deliveries, which can be left at the front door.

They request that visitors to the site follow Alberta Health Services guidelines for COVID-19, and also maintain a social distance of a minimum of three feet in distance from other individuals.
