June 22nd saw the Mayor and other members of Strathmore's Town Council come together with locals in the community in an informal and conversational setting.

Mayor Pat Fule describes how the event's successes are driving it forward.

“I think it would be a good idea to do again and maybe it's something we schedule it for a time when people who work during the day can come in, maybe we can try some different time suggestions and see if that will be able to give more of the working people or people who are students at a post-secondary school, maybe they can attend easier if we did. It's a matter of tweaking it and figuring out what's the best way to move forward.”

Fule addressed a wide range of concerts, comments and questions from his constituents. Some of these issues concerned the walkability of Strathmore's sidewalks, gophers and even the Towns struggle with dandelion control.

“I understand they're a nuisance and I understand that when they go to seed they spread everywhere. We're trying to look at some ways we can deal with this and I think we have certain parks that are identified as being more likely to have dandelion spray used. It's a controversial issue if we were to spray early. Then they may not bloom, and I know some people are very interested in allowing dandelions. They're one of the first pollinating plants that bloom for bees after the winter season, so there are a lot of people who feel we should leave the dandelions alone. Some feel that they should be all just gotten rid of because they supplant the grass in a lot of ways.  We just have to find out what we can do.”

If you didn't get to attend don't worry. You will have the opportunity to have a chat with your local representatives on anything from local policy to simple lawn care soon.
