Thanks to the local shelter, a few businesses and organizations like the Strathmore Municipal Library, and the cooling station at the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre, a few people who are experiencing homelessness in Strathmore have a place to go to get out from the extremely hot sun.

Executive Director of the Strathmore Overnight Shelter Elizabeth Karp explained staying in the sun for too long can cause some problems for the homeless.

“I've had a few people come in with sunburn because they're sitting out in the sun. They're tired but we do encourage them either to go to the library or if they have gift cards or something to go Tim Horton's or A&W,” she said. She explained that there is some relief from the weather in the church, but it is still extremely hot outside.

Fortunately, the weather does drop a bit during their hours of operation, overnight.

Karp explained that donations of water are appreciated as the staff does send clients out with water after their stay.

They are also always looking for community members who want to volunteer to help at the shelter.
