We are in the middle of another heat wave, which has had many community members trying to find ways to cool down. Besides the important health tips of staying hydrated and finding shade, what else can you do in town to beat the heat?
Splash Park
The only listing in this article that still involves being outside, the splash park gives you the best of both worlds. You still get to be outside and enjoy a sunny summer day, but also stay cool enough that the heat doesn't tire you out right away! Open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the splash park is a great way to have fun while staying cool.
Strathmore Pool
Staying on theme with water, the Strathmore Aquatic Centre is open all day with a variety of activities to enjoy. If you're trying to get some cardio workouts in but can't go jogging due to the heat, the pool's lane swim has you covered. If you just want to have a quick swim and have fun with the family, public swim is also available. The schedule changes every day for the pool, so be sure to check before you go to make sure you can do what you're going for. Find the pool's schedule here.
Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre cooling station
Whenever there is a heat warning, the Town of Strathmore opening the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre is usually quick to follow, and this week was no exception. So long as the heat warning is active, you can visit the Sports Centre to sit down, have some water, and enjoy a nice, air-conditioned space.
Even beyond the cooling centre capabilities, you can also go to the Sports Centre to enjoy their walking track, if you were looking to get your steps in without being outside.
Ice rink (starting at the end of the month)
Public skating will open at the Strathmore Family Centre on August 30, if the heat is still an issue at that point you could definitely cool yourself off by going for a skate! The ice rink will soon be open for public skates and shinnies for kids and adults, alongside other activities.
