Recent COVID-19 restrictions and a struggling economy have hit local businesses hard this year. The Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce (SWCC) is debuting a new campaign that will entice residents to shop in their own backyard this year.

The "Rediscover Local" campaign is encouraging people to fill out a card that is stamped every time they purchase something from a Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce member business. When the card is fully filled out, the shopper will be entered to win gift cards that are drawn weekly.

"I think that our local businesses have really jumped in with full force to make sure that people understand that shopping local is fun and important," explained Hayley Poirier, Chair of the Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce.

The cards, along with a complementary SWCC tote bag can be found at participating businesses including the 104.5 More Country office. Poirier said that even if customers aren't comfortable with going into a business to shop, many are offering alternative measures like curbside pickup.

"We had to do it this summer where there was a lot of switchover to curbside pickup. I think that everyone is a little more used to it. The stores and the businesses are really encouraging this. Let's take full advantage of what they have already set up and take advantage of curbside pickup," she continued.

In addition to curbside, there are also pick up and delivery options available for shops and restaurants alike. Poirier continued to reiterate that shopping locally benefits everyone in the community.

"There are so many benefits to shopping local the money stays in our community, that's number one, throughout Wheatland County and Strathmore. Those are the same people that we usually go to when we need a donation for our charities and our sports teams. It is time that we step up and help them."
