Get ready for a fresh start to the season with Wheatland Youth Network this month. March is the kickoff to a number of activities for youth in the Strathmore and Wheatland County region ages 11 to 24.

On Friday, March 4, the Wheatland Youth Network got it all started with their youth night hosted in partnership with the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre.

Michelle Ryan, Navigator for the Wheatland Youth Network speaks about how it went and the importance of having a place for young people to socialize as well as mental health and wellness supports.

“With Wheatland News Network (WYN) we're part of the CMHA that is the Canadian Mental Health Association integrated Youth Hub project. In that project our goal is creating an integrated youth hub and connecting youth ages 11 all the way up through 24 with mild to moderate wellness resources in their community,” she said.

She explained that this month part of WYN’s programming is to have some fun and engaging events such as their partnership with the SMP youth night last Friday.

“On March 18th we will be again at SMP Sports Center having like a Flashback Friday Old School gym class games and our third event in March will be a Marvel Movie Pizza Night at the Strathmore Library on March 25th,” said Ryan.

The organization is creating a series of pop-up events that will hopefully she says continue building relationships with community members and help share with the community where to find local support.

As some COVID-19 regulations are relaxing, now is the time for young people to take advantage of community activities.

She noted that it’s important for young people to build community through interactions with others. Events like the ones hosted by WYN are a chance for young people to meet other youth, all while participating in a fun and enjoyable activity. Find out more about the Wheatland Youth Network here.
