What better way to make some waves and take a dip in the pool during a heatwave, than with float yoga. People are invited to register with PerfectMind at the town of Strathmore to take float yoga. The current session starts on Wednesday, August 19.

Ty Tomasta, Town of Strathmore communications ambassador explains that float yoga is suitable though for everyone regardless of their experience level. “If you are new to yoga, or if you are just getting into it, this is something that you could do,” he said.

The way it works is people are put onto floatation yoga mats and then brought out onto the water.

“It is facilitated by an instructor. It’s basically a yoga class that is on water,” said Tomasta

“We’ve ran this program in the past and it was received extremely well,” said Tomasta.

Participants should dress appropriately and be prepared to get wet for this class.

“If you want to dress for a yoga workout, or if you want to dress in your aquatic wear either is fine, we just ask that people come prepared to get wet as the mats will get wet during the class,” he said.

“Its also nice because if you are somebody who is not so comfortable on the water, or not really sure if they want to do it, it’s a nice controlled environment where you don’t need to worry about anything else,” explained Tomasta. “You can just focus on the class, do your yoga instruction, and it’s a nice controlled environment where you don’t need to stress too much about other things going on.”

The float yoga class is suitable for people over the age of 13 years. Float yoga runs on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visit the town of Strathmore recreation page and register using PerfectMind software for the class. Drop-ins are possible if there is space available.
