This week I had the chance to catch up with number 15 from the Strathmore Wheatland Kings, Jaycob Masciangelo, for our King of the Week. It's his first year with the Kings and Masciangelo has put up seven points for his team with two goals and five assists so far this season.

Masciangelo said he's been playing hockey since he was three-years-old and has had a passion for the game ever since! He's quite versatile when it comes down to playing hockey as he's pretty much played every position on the ice except goalie and is currently playing on the wings for the Kings. Masciangelo said that his dad put him in hockey at a young age, and he has had a special place in his heart for the sport ever since.

Playing with the Kings has been an awesome experience for Masciangelo and he loves going out there and playing hard for his team. This weekend he feels confident and said him and his team can secure two W's against the hosting Stettler Lightning on Friday and here at home against the Red Deer Vipers.

While some players prepare for game day with a little superstition, Masciangelo said that he just makes sure he's well hydrated, tapes up his stick and that's about it. Keeps it nice and simple!

Outside of hockey, Masciangelo said he spends a lot of time with his friends and even plays a little hockey with them. In the off season he said he stays focused on hockey and training. Making sure he's in good shape and ready for the next season..

Masciangelo said his favourite memories of hockey is all the friends he's made. Some of his best friends he has he's played hockey with pretty much his whole life, and still plays with some of them on the Wheatland Kings.

Make sure you come out and watch Jaycob Masciangelo and the Wheatland Kings on Saturday as they take on the Red Deer Vipers at 8 p.m. here at home.
