He may wear number nine for the Strathmore Wheatland Kings, but recently centerman Lucas Muenchrath was number one in the Heritage Junior Hockey League as he was recently named the first star of the week at the beginning of October. The 19-year-old was part of eight of the King's 10 goals at the start of the month. After a trio of assists in a 5-0 win over the Lomond Lakers, and a pair of goals and five points in a 5-2 victory over the High River Flyers, Muenchrath has had a great start to his season.

He said that it's a really cool feeling to be recognized as the first star in the league and he hopes to see some of his teammates get recognized for all the hard work they do.

When asked about how he got into hockey, he said he's played it ever since he was little and with his brothers, cousins and friends all playing the sport, he's been around it his whole life. Muenchrath, said he prepares for game day by eating pasta and getting his head into the game, but said there's no secret to his high total of points, he just drinks lots of water and says he plays with some really great line mates that help set him up for success.

Muenchrath talked a little bit about what he does outside of hockey and he said he played a lot of golf this summer, he loves to play badminton and spend time with his family.

Now sitting at 11 points in just six games, Muenchrath is hoping to add to his total and help his team win Saturday's game as they take on the Rocky Rams here in Strathmore.

Congratulations Lucas Muenchrath for being our King of the Week!
