The Strathmore Wheatland Kings won one and lost one over the weekend.

“We went down to the Kainai Junior Braves on Friday and played really well,” explained Lee Smith, general manager. “We came back with an 8-3 win. We got home really late on Friday night and played on Saturday evening. We didn’t really play well in the first period, we came out really flat in the second period, but we were better in the third. “

The Mountainview Colts ended up taking home the win 5-1 against the Kings on Saturday. This was the first matchup for the Colts and Kings this season.

“We're in fourth place in the South division, so as it looks as it stands right now, we will be in the playoffs so that is good,” Smith continued.

The Kings have a busy weekend ahead with three games in 72 hours. On Friday night, they will be heading to see the High River Flyers, on Saturday they will meet up with the Red Deer Vipers, and then finally they will be back at home on Sunday to take on the Flyers again.

"I think the biggest thing to remember is that we're a young team. We've got some young players and we had to keep a number of players just because of COVID-19,” he explained. “We didn't want to get into a situation where if we had problems with COVID-19 or with sickness or injuries, we'd have enough players. But the young players make it very exciting to watch.”

Sunday's home game will be the last home game for the Kings in 2021 and at the holiday-themed game, they will be hosting a food drive for the Wheatland County Food Bank.  To get your tickets to this Sunday’s home game, visit EventBrite.ca.
