The Town of Strathmore recently announced that the public bathrooms in Kinsmen Park had been vandalized and therefore closed to the public.

"Vandalism is a common problem, but 2021 has seen an uncommon amount in Strathmore," explained Geoff Person, communications manager for the Town of Strathmore. "So far this year over $20,000 in damage has occurred to Town facilities. This often means the facilities need to be closed for repairs for some time, and that we’re diverting staff time money away from other projects for costly repairs."

He continued to say that this is not the first time bathrooms have been targeted.

"Most recently we’ve closed the Kinsmen Park public restrooms following damage caused on Wednesday evening. This follows damage to the Lambert Park restrooms and the Strathmore Municipal Building restrooms in August. These aren’t accidents. They’re deliberate destruction of fixtures, doors are being torn off, signs stolen, and graffiti carved into walls. The most unfortunate impact of this is on the people who depend on our facilities."

He urged the perpetrators to stop. "We’re asking for the people responsible for this vandalism to stop, we’re asking for neighbourhoods to keep watch for this behaviour. If you see an act of vandalism in progress contact the RCMP non-emergency line at 403-934-3535."
