Kody Giffen will be spending four years behind bars for his part in the murder of Kristian Ayoungman.

Giffen pled guilty to Manslaughter in the March 2019 death of Kristian Ayoungman. Brandon Giffen, his brother, will go on trial in June 2021.

The killing of Ayoungman shocked the community of Strathmore and Siksika Nation, and some believe it was racially motivated.

It’s believed that on March 16, 2019, the victim and accused were both at the King Eddy Pub in Strathmore. Two groups of people fought. Kody Giffen left to go find his brother Brandon, who at the time was at home at his apartment.

Ayoungman and his friends left in order to drive home. One of his friend’s home was in the same apartment building as Brandon Giffen. A fight ensued in the apartment parking lot. Brandon went inside and retrieved a hunting rifle. He confronted Ayoungman, who fled with his friends in a truck.

Brandon and Kody followed with Kody Giffen driving, Brandon in the passenger seat, and the rest of their friends in the vehicle.

The brother’s vehicle pulled over, and a single shot from Brandon Giffen on the highway killed Ayoungman.
