The Strathmore Curling Club's Bonspiel season is well underway with 3 events still to come.

The curling club was a very busy spot last week from February 8-12 when 16 teams came to play in this year's Ladies Bonspiel.

President Ken Shackleton was thrilled with how the event went and the turnout, "The Shack Attack Rink were the organizers this year, many thanks to Cindy, Debbie, Michelle, and Linda, as well as to all the numerous volunteers for making this one a success."

Shackleton also noted that the ice was in great shape for the event and that was down to the hard work of the crew including John, Mike, and Russ, and that this event was also possible thanks to all the local sponsors.

Ladies' Bonspiel Organizer Cindy Shackleton said it was nice to see how large the tournament turnout was, as they weren't able to hold the tournament last year due to covid.

"We were worried that maybe that might hurt us, but it didn't at all. We got all our same teams back as well as our league teams, which is eight teams in total. So we had quite a few teams come from out of town," she said.

Cindy added the turnout was actually even bigger than last year, as teams from Irricana, Hussar, Standard, Chestermere, and Calgary all joined in on the fun.

"We were really happy with the turnout, people were excited to get back into the events after covid, so this was a a good sign for sure."

There were three rinks that took home a top prize this year, The Cannon rink bested the Shack Attack rink for the A final

This is just the first of several bonspiels to come, as the Juniors' bonspiel is on February 24-26, followed by the Sturling on March 4. After that, the Men's is March 19-26. Cindy encourages anyone who is interested to join, as registration is still open! You could even win prizes, as she added sponsorships from local businesses are always amazing and help the club offer great prizes like air fryers, lawn chairs, and more.
