Well, the games are underway at the Longest Hockey Game Marathon in Chestermere. Organizer Alex Halat chatted with us in between shifts on the ice and he said that things are going as well as can be expected.

“My body quickly reminded me what it was like to play in the last four hours, but it's been awesome. The boys are getting through it but there is some fatigue.”

According to Halat, the support that they have been receiving has really helped them push through the pain of being on the ice.

“There are a lot of fans here. People were here until about 3-4 in the morning watching us, and right now it's probably another 200 people here.”

Donations can be made at the rink and also on the Hockey Marathon website where donations go directly to the Children’s Hospital.

“We got an amazing silent auction as well. If folks are interested in coming to do that and plus, we have an online 50/50 up to $1,000,000 as well that you can purchase online.”

Halat, who is playing on swollen feet along with his other teammates explained that seeing how their efforts are actually going to help is a real driving force.

“There are so many kids coming to visit us right now we've got a couple of kids in the hospital and you quickly forget about your pains. We had little Luke here yesterday who's been battling leukemia for two years. Once you hang out with them a bit you forget about your foot pain and it's all worth it to try and get Luke home at the end of the day.”
