This weekend we are host to the Laurie Morton Ruppe Memorial Tournament at the Strathmore Family Centre.  Tons of ringette teams came to take place in the action.

"We have 40 teams from all over the place, we have teams that came in from Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, one from Saskatchewan.  We have a total of 160 players playing this weekend from U10 to U19 levels."  Said Brandy Atkinson, Tournament Director.

Ruppe was a player, coach and Vice President on the Strathmore Minor Ringette Association (SMRA) board for 2 years.

"The tournament is done in honor of Laurie Morton Ruppe, she was a big, big part of ringette, a huge supporter, she coached, she mentored for many years."  Said Atkinson.

There's lots of girls that came out to play and sure didn't shy away from playing the best that they can, while also having fun.

"I think sports, especially for girls, they kind of you know get left behind in the other ones, here with ringette we are all about fun, friendship, fair play.  We want these girls to continue on and have other opportunities."  Atkinson said.

Throughout the weekend there is lots of fun stuff going on, there's a progressive 50/50, raffle table, sucker pull and plinko.  The tournament continues on until tomorrow.

*Atkinson would like to thank all the sponsors, without them this would not be possible.
