Last night, at the Strathmore town council’s committee of the whole meeting, the council reviewed a list of proposed amendments to the Traffic Control Bylaw No. 06-18. The meeting revealed tht the bylaw has not been amended since July 2012.

The town administration revealed the bylaw appears very outdated.

At the meeting, staff revealed the bylaw has been compared with bylaws in the communities of Chestermere, Airdrie, and Cochrane, and staff has tried to create a safer bylaw for the residents of Strathmore.

Staff was looking for council input for changes to the bylaw.

Council members asked for clarification on topics like the use of e-bikes, the difference between school zones and playground zones, landscaping that impedes visibility on highways, riding horses on the highway and in town, and the parking of heavy vehicles like semi-trucks on local roadways.

The plan is for the town administration to return to the council in order to present the Traffic Control Bylaw with amendments at a later date.
