Returning again, in his second term as Strathmore's mayor, Pat Fule, is excited to get back to work.

He said he looks forward to learning more about the new and returning council members.

“We have a lot of orientation work to do together, just to go over various things that are important, like meeting protocols and going over different policies and things that are really important to the Council.”

Fule is looking forward to seeing what each councillor's biggest concerns are and wants to learn more about how they would like to go forward.

“The other thing is I really would like to see about first is getting a society started for both baseball and hockey because I think it's time we started to put in money into a restricted reserve and try to get a new baseball diamond. I also want to work with community members and stakeholders' companies to look at a potential new twin arena.”

“But we have to start work on creating a society so that they can start to fundraise as well as get on the casino list and then the town can also work with them.”

This last campaign season was different than the rest. The reelected mayor explained that he heard a common theme when talking with residents.

“Well, we couldn't really go door to door the way we did say four years ago when I first ran for mayor, but through the forums and through questions I've received from different people, I know that the debt is an issue that some people have on their minds.”

This year, Fule is hoping to strengthen his leadership on council. He hopes to continue to finesse his skills of chairing a meeting.

“You want to make sure everybody gets a chance to be heard, but you also have to follow the proper procedures so that it's an orderly kind of a meeting.”

Getting back to business, and continuing on some projects that have already had great progress is what Fule is looking forward to for the council's first organizational meeting on October 27.

“I wanted to really thank the Strathmore people who voted for me but also the many people who volunteered on their own to have lawn signs for me put out. That really helped me believe that I did have some support in this latest election.”

There were 2,019 votes in the ballot box for Fule during this election. The second-highest number of votes went to Jason Hollingsworth with 994.
