It was a successful week at the 2019 Strathmore Men’s Bonspiel, which ran from March 12-17.

The bonspiel had four events. The A Event champions was Team O’connor, which consisted of Robbie Johnson, Sean O’Connor, Ryan O’Connor, and Russ Jennings.

B Event saw Team Peterson as the champion, which consists of Kelton Mamel, Trevor Stiengart, Jim Peterson, and Rick Los.

C Event’s champion was Team McKenzie, which had Doug Puzzie, Rick Bishop, Roger McKenzie, and Larry Windsor.

D Event had the win go to Team Janke, which had Wolfgang Janke, Perry Keller, Gregg Shields, and Evan Shields.

According to Brent Ashlee, director of the men’s league and men’s bonspiel, the men’s bonspiel went exceptionally well, “we had 31 mens teams from Strathmore and area, as well as some teams from Calgary. We had a really great prize table, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We had The Strathmore Elks Lodge No. 491 do the supper this year, it went over really well.”

Ashlee said, “we had some really good finals, we had some lop sided games too. For the most part the finals were close games, a lot of them went down to the last rock. It was good to see again.”

Ashlee said that it was a great end to the curling season, “that’s typically our last event of the year at Strathmore. It is definitely a good end, we always seem to have some good weather when we have our bonspiel. It was definitely a good way to end the year for the men’s league and the Strathmore and District Curling Club.”

The club will be open until March 22 to give people a chance to come try out some curling before the end of the season, and to spark interest for anyone who wants to try next season.
