MLA for Chestermere-Strathmore, Leela Sharon Aheer, is hosting a handful of opportunities for the smaller communities of her constituency to speak out.

She kicked the Coffee, Cookies, and Conversation event off in Cheadle yesterday and will be at The Lakes of Muirfield Golf Course on Friday.

When asked about the topics that were most brought up to her, Aheer responded, “There's some work that's being done on EMS right now, we've gotten some interesting information about that, so we're just trying to dig into that.”

“Also, with rural policing and with respect to provincial policing versus the federal policing.”

She explained that there has been some work done in the past in regards to rural policing already, and she hopes to continue the conversation.

“Our rural policing was one in particular; I did a couple of town halls with MP Shields actually around that and it really helped us. We did a ton of work around legislation around people stealing copper wire.”

“Hearing their concerns actually helped us to put forward legislation to make sure that people who are bringing in copper wire to places that buy copper wire are now able to track back where they were getting that copper wire from so that it hadn't been stolen off of a site or for example.”

Aheer will be in Indus on Saturday, and she expects to hear more about a topic that is affecting everyone in Alberta right now.

“Everybody is talking about the increase in electricity bills, so I have asked everyone to send us all their information on their electricity bills because we are putting together a file to give to the Minister of Natural Gas and Electricity about what is happening to people.”

After this set of meetings, Aheer will be organizing larger meetings in Strathmore, Langdon, and Chestermere.
